The Gift 02:41
The Gift

. A little strange
But as a boy I felt I knew
There was something beyond all these plastic toys

 And as I watched
 From my room
 Through my window
I heard a voice come to me from the afternoon

 It said…
If you can’t get blood from a stone
And you feel like you’re ever alone
If you can’t put your trust in a friend

 Just live with peace
 And live with hope
 And live with love
And the answer will come to you from above Those days in school
 I played a fool
 It made me smile
But a joker would stay with me for quite a while

 And yet inside
 eleven one (11:01)
 As worlds collide
I still heard the voice from when I was young It said…
If you can’t get blood from a stone
And you feel like you’re ever alone
If you can’t put your trust in a friend

Just live with peace
 And live with hope
 And live with love
And the answers will come to you from above

And with the answer in your heart
 Nothing can tear you apart
But if it’s always coming down
 I lay on the floor
 Till I don’t hear a sound.

My eyes are dry
 Just like a man
 But I cut my chin
As I crawled through the emotional garbage can

 I tried to grow
 Tried to be fair
 And understand
That my gift will go with me everywhere So…
If you can’t get blood from a stone
And you feel like you’re ever alone
If you can’t put your trust in a friend

 Just live with peace
 And live with hope
 And live with love
And the answer will come to you from above
2.
God on the Phone

. Somebody get me God on the phone
I think I need some answers
Cos, staying alive could mean staying alone
and I’m, not taking any chances

The weight of the world is like a gun to my head
Bring me some coffee please
Those kids on the news look way underfed
A burger double cheese And I’m taking the Pulitzer Prize as the soldiers turn
I get shoes in exactly my size as the bodies burn As the bodies burn

Somebody get me God on the phone
 We need a new direction
The friend of mine here with a hole in her vein
 Has got a new infection

And I’m flying my kite in the breeze, as she writes her will
And if love makes me weak in the knees, why does cancer kill?

The cancer kills

I’m going straight from hell with you
I’m going straight to God for you
And then I’ll look him in the eye
…well, maybe I’ll do it …

Old Lady 02:52
Old Lady. People think when you grow old You go insane I was younger then But inside I’m still the same Living in commission flats Making cups of tea I have seven grandchildren But they never visit me And how I miss the old lady There was always things do Cos’ we had a lot of friends But they all died last year And no-one remembers them When I made fun at you You’d make fun back at me You died so young (at) 62 And I miss you old lady Solo Now the cat sits alone with me
And I’m young again in my dreams My love for you will never die And I miss you old lady People think when you grow old You go insane I was younger then But inside I’m still the same And I live in a commission flat With others just like me And we all have grandchildren That never come and see
4.
End of the Line

Hollow footsteps as I walk away
It’s hard to leave when I want you
I’d like to say what’s been on my mind I’ll have to wait once again I can’t believe that I miss you so
 And it’s a shame I can’t tell you
Though you told me I was “just a friend”
 I’ll pretend I don’t hear you
Cos’ I feel like I’ve known you
 Since the dawn of time
And I wanna be with you I wish you knew what you feel for me
Cos’ I could drown in this ocean
All this time just an inch away
An inch away from devotion Cos’ I feel like I’ve known you
 Since the dawn of time
And I wanna be with you

Till the end of the line Till the end of the line I wanna be your friend, and I hope you understand
Till the end of the line So sometimes will you think of me
 When you’re feeling alone
Cos’ many times I have dreamed of you
 And that feeling of home

So below as it is above
It’s not for us to understand
So when you’re ready for eternity
Let me be your man Cos’ I feel like I’ve known you
Since the dawn of time
And I wanna be with you

Till the end of the line Till the end of the line I wanna be your friend, and I hope you understand
Till the end of the line

Tell Me 03:34
Tell Me. There’s a hole in my side It’s where my heart used to be But since I gave it away I’ve been seeing things differently Did you call out my name? As you were running away You will get what you gave From the love that you made But now I’m asking Oh – will the blind man see? Oh – will the deaf man hear? Oh – will the ocean rise? And will you ever tell me what I’m doing here? So I see by the light And I hear by the sound And as I’m climbing the stairs I will never look down But now I’m asking Oh – will the blind man see? Oh – will the deaf man hear? Oh – will the ocean rise? And will you ever tell me what I’m doing here? And if I stand on my own can I reach for my soul? And if lay down and die, will my lover not cry? Tell me why. But now I’m asking Oh – will the blind man see? Oh – will the deaf man hear? Oh – will the ocean rise? And will you ever tell me what I’m doing here?
6.
Call Me James.
 Born again ‘63
With you always there for me
 Singing your harmony

 And my earliest memory
 Is watching you watching me
 Wondering what I’d be

 And if not for you
I might not be sane
Cos’ you would take my hand
 And call me James
And look at me now Cos’ I am living and breathing
 With my Mothers eyes
 My Fathers size
In for a fight, but knowing what’s right
Look at me now And Mum will come swimming too
And when we get home from school
Can we throw the dog in the pool?

I was locked away in my room
 Playing my first guitar
It was the best thing I’d played so far

 And through whooping cough
 And some chicken pox
Well you would take my hand
And call me James And look at me now Cos’ I am living and breathing
With my Mothers eyes
 My Fathers size
In for a fight, but knowing what’s right
Look at me now And you made us learn how to dance
And you taught us all how to sing
 You showed us most everything

And though you are miles away
I think of you every day
And there’s something I’d like to say If not for you
 I might not be sane
So will you take my hand
? And call me James
And look at me now Cos’ I am living and breathing
 With my Mothers eyes
 My Fathers size
In for a fight, knowing what’s right
Look at me now And look at me now Cos’ I am living and breathing
With my Mothers eyes
My Fathers size In for a fight, but knowing what’s right
Look at me now Look at me now Look at me now

Really Well Adjusted.

Sitting in the laundromat, I’m washing my clothes
A man with a dog, and a curious pose
He’s pointing his finger. He’s coming for me
Don’t ask me a question I got nothing to say

cos I’m really well adjusted I’m really well adjusted I’m really well adjusted, but I think you’d better leave me alone I buckle in the front seat, I’m taking a ride
It’s hard to laugh, when you’re hurting inside
People often say “It wouldn’t happen to me ”
I’m putting you straight because it’s easy to see When you’re really well adjusted Really well adjusted I’m really well adjusted, but I think you’d better leave me alone
The Politicians, television talking to me
Avoid the answers and holding the key
A lady with a baby, she lives on the street!
Hey why don’t these guys give her a parliament seat? Are they really well adjusted? Really well adjusted I’m really well adjusted, but I think you’d better leave me alone

My hippy ex-girlfriend was saying to me
“Here’s the name of a counsellor I think you should see
I bought you some candles, cos’ I’m very concerned”
Don’t tell me about it, I’ve got nothing to learn! cos I’m really well adjusted Really well adjusted I’m really well adjusted, but I think you’d better leave me alone I’m really well adjusted, but I think you’d better leave me alone I’m really well adjusted, I think you’d better leave me alone

Do you know My Name ?

 Under the bridge he came
The brim of his hat, winding ‘round his name
He wandered into our street Caring not of the danger he could meet. I have come down from the hill
I have come down while the day is still
And I watched your wisdom grow You see, you are not alone Do you know my name?

I watched you from afar
And I saw the anger growing in your heart
And I know what she said
And I know that you wished that you were dead I have come down from the hill
I have come down while the day is still
And I would ease your pain But some will still remain Do you know my name? Ah – Take me away
 I still feel the pain
 Alone every day
Is this the only way? I have come down from the hill
I have come down while the day is still
And I watched your wisdom grow You see, you are not alone Do you know my name?

Wave of Thought. Love what we have Or let it slip away We should be the master Of what we think and say Our feet are on the ground Our eyes are to the sun The ocean at the heart Of what we have become But if power's all you crave, you will suffocate the wave Can’t you see the life In the spaces that we find Or is it out of sight And therefore out of mind Another business lunch Another business day Poisoning the ocean Then just look away But if power's all you crave, you will suffocate the wave Look into the future Tell me what you see Our children grow Into the world we leave We dig for greed We seek the mother load We slowly kill the earth We slowly boil a toad The power that you crave, will put you in a grave Gunamatta should be saved, or you will suffocate the wave
10.
Spain 03:28
Spain.

Now I see the lips that I’ve read
And they’re the voices of the dead
So don’t try to change my head
Cos’ I won’t hear a word that you’ve said Cos’ they don’t realise, that it’s in their eyes
And if I’m not the same
You can tell them I went to Spain (I went to Spain)

Now I know things have taken quite a change
But why should I be to blame?
Why should I have to explain
The feelings I have when in Spain? Cos’ when I found you near
 Then I have no fear
 And they don’t realise
That the message is in our eyes (While in Spain)
But the Spain that’s in my heart And the message in my eyes
It’s crystal clear
I can’t stay here
It won’t last forever No, you can’t change me now No, you can’t change me now And did you think that in the end
 I would dispel my friend?
To a life that will not change
Well, I won’t spend it here in Spain.

Christmas Again Some days we rush through our lives Some days we don’t get too far It’s a complicated world We think of the people we love As we drive through the freeways of life It’s hard to be around We need to slow it down Say goodbye to the blues Hello to the news The lights are up again With family for lunch And dinner with friends Follow the star, come as you are To Christmas again Remember we used to hang socks We got them from Dad’s bottom drawer And we’d try to stay awake Maybe they’re playing that film Where it snows in the middle of town It’s the wrong time of year The sun shines down here Say goodbye to the blues Hello to the news The lights are up again With family for lunch And dinner with friends Follow the star, come as you are To Christmas again Comes ‘round slow when you’re young And fast as you grow But at the same time each year Hold your loved ones near Say goodbye to the blues Hello to the news The lights are up again With family for lunch And dinner with friends Follow the star, come as you are To Christmas again

about

In the mid 1980’s as Jimi Hocking was an emerging electric guitarist, He had an alter-ego performing at Folk Cafes around Melbourne. ‘Jimi the human’ played solo/acoustic shows to a cult following, performing a mixture of serious originals and often ‘goofy’ covers. Many of the songs on this album were originally released on cassette back in the day, the cutting edge indie technology of the time.
