BRAND NEW RADIO I don't wanna' go back to my job Gonna sit at home, gonna pat my dog Take my girl, on a honeymoon Eat my soup from a silver spoon Hey Hey. That’s what I say. I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star My girl means the world to me To my heart there’s a golden key She said I'm the only one I say I'd better be. Hey Hey. That’s what I say. I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star Well I don't wanna ever be lonely I don't want an empty brain I just wanna feel the sunshine and the rain. I'll find us a holiday shack We'll move right in and never come back You and me and Billie the cat We'll all eat cake and slowly get fat Hey Hey. That’s what I say. I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star Well I don't wanna ever be lonely I don't want an empty brain I just wanna feel the sunshine and the rain I don't wanna' go back to my job I’ll sit at home, and pat my dog Take my girl, on a honeymoon Eat my soup from a silver spoon Hey Hey. That’s what I say. I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star I'll get a brand new radio for my car Lay on the hood and count every single star

Bitter Tears 05:29
BITTER TEARS These ain’t tears, I ain’t crying over you These ain’t tears baby, I ain’t crying over you Since you walked out the door
I’ve been flat out and more

This ain’t a bottle baby, you know I won’t drink myself to sleep.
No, this ain’t a bottle baby, you know I won’t drink myself to sleep.
She was cold as a snake
But my heart will never ache for bitter tears.

I’ll get me some take away food baby, and you know I prefer eating it alone. I’ll get me some take away food baby, and you know I prefer eating that shit alone.
You can call all you want, my machine’s always on.

I just won’t cry those bitter tears
I don’t want to cry those bitter tears No, I don’t want to cry those bitter tears
Yeah, I don’t want to cry those bitter tears No, I don’t want to cry those bitter tears
She was cold, cold, cold as snake baby

THE BLUES IS MY BOSS I wanna tell you Momma The blues gave me every note I play
I wanna tell you Papa The blues gave me every note I play
If it wasn’t for the blues
I wouldn’t have a whole lot to say

If it weren’t for McKinley Morganfield
I wouldn’t know where my mojo was If it weren’t for McKinley Morganfield
I wouldn’t know where my mojo was. I know rock n roll is the son of the blues
So the blues must be my boss

I’ll just keep swinging, Like a big ol’ blue gum in the wind I’m just gonna keep on swinging
Like a big ol’ blue gum in the wind
My blues is about living and loving
And taking it all on the chin. I wanna tell you Momma The blues gave me every note I play
I wanna tell you Papa The blues gave me every note I play
If it wasn’t for the blues
I wouldn’t have a whole lot to say If it wasn’t for the blues
I wouldn’t have a whole lot to say If it wasn’t for the blues
I wouldn’t know what to play these days.

The Golden Rule. © Jimi Hocking Little Isabelle, she wanna’ shake something down She got some brand new toys/shoes, she wanna show em’ around And someone told me once a little ain’t enough You’re gonna need a lot more if the going gets tough Still you’re better off alive than you would be dead So keep your shoes on your feet and keep your hat on your head That boy from East St Kilda, he’s always driving too fast He’s always in a race, he never wanna come last Don’t wanna be the one to say you gotta slow down But if you want some trouble man there’s plenty around Still you’re better off alive than you would be dead So keep your shoes on your feet and keep your hat on your head So if you’re going crazy and you’re climbing the walls You know the higher you climb, the harder you fall You got some problems at home, a little trouble at work Because your partner is a martyr and the boss is a jerk Still you’re better off alive than you would be dead So keep your shoes on your feet and keep your hat on your head So keep your shoes on your feet And keep your hat on your head Just keep your shoes on your feet And keep your hat on your head

My Way or the Highway. © Jimi Hocking Grind that wheel of a train
I ain’t never coming back
Cos’ I’ve seen this road before
And it becomes a bitter track
We gotta do it your way
Better watch me while I pack

Cos’ I wanna see the light
Gonna keep my chin up high
So don’t put me in that chair
Ain’t no way I’m gonna fry
If we only do it your way
This must be my last goodbye You say its,
My way or the Highway, and you’d better not complain. My way or the Highway, kiss my arse baby Jane

So if you see me in a taxi cab
With a stranger you don’t know
Did you think that I’d be lonely
Think I got nowhere to go ?
I’ve been saving for a rainy day
And now baby you got snow So its,
My way or the Highway, and you’d better not complain. My way or the Highway, kiss my arse baby Jane. My way or the Highway, and you’d better not complain. My way or the Highway, smell the coffee baby Jane. My way or the Highway, and you’d better not complain. My way or the Highway, kiss my arse baby Jane.

My First Car 02:53
My First Car. © Jimi Hocking

My first car, was the one I am claiming to be
By far, a kinda automotive sincerity
My friends, and the strangers who lived in my street Would laugh, at what they called my Italian Mercedes It may be hard to insure
Mechanically, there’s problems galore And there might be some rust in the door
My first car. I’d drive, just to burn up my fuel every day
I laughed when I broke the economy gauge
I go out to Melton and skate if I want Head down to the corner and buy a croissant And it may be hard to insure
And the motor may fall through the floor But I’m gonna’ pull chicks now for sure My first car. Rock and roll section Solo

I think back, to the days of the manual shift
The big six helped me get through my apprenticeship
And now, since I’m so damn mature I can’t
Go crazy, like I did my Valiant.

It used to be hard to insure
It looked cool with the wideys’ for sure And the Hemi made a thundering roar My first car.

School Fool 02:17
School Fool. © Jimi Hocking

I got a friend who’s always playing the fool Yeah, I got a friend who’s always playing the fool He thinks he’s so damn smart
He thinks he’s so damn cool

If it wasn’t for him, I might have passed in school If it wasn’t for him, I might have passed in school He was always distracting me
So I would join in too
I had to join in too
Nothing I could do I had to join in too
Well, the Principle called, he said, he’d see me after class Well, the Principle called, to see me after the class
 And he told me then
He wanna kick my ass.

But when I was a school
 I just didn’t’ relate
I didn’t hang with the tough kids
 Who thought they were great
I wasn’t academic
 And I wasn’t a jock
 I was trying to learn
 But I kinda forgot

So I would hang with the kid, who’s always playing the fool Yeah, I would hang with the kid who’d be playing the fool He thinks he’s so damn smart
He thinks he’s so damn cool

Well, I turned around and I was fully grown
Paying of a car, and a home of my own
I see little kids, walking to school
And I start to wonder what their parents would do if they … Hang with the kid, who’s always playing the fool What if they hang with the kid who’d be playing the fool He thinks he’s so damn smart
He thinks he’s so damn cool He thinks he’s so damn smart
He thinks he’s so damn cool Well I was so damn smart I was so damn cool.

Nothing to Prove. © Jimi Hocking

Well I got me ten dollars that I’m dying to spend
But that kinda money doesn’t buy many friends
So you, go and tell me
That I got nothing to lose I end up sleeping like a cat on the floor
I’m always dreaming just a little bit more About you
And all the things that you do. He hey hey
 I could sleep all day
Cos I got nothing to prove
Except my love for you So listen honey, can I call you collect?
I’m gonna make it, gonna win your respect
So you, you better tell me
If there is somebody else

You won’t be waiting on a Saturday night
You won’t be crying, while I get in a fight
Cos I gotta tell ya I’m a changing man He hey hey
I could sleep all day
Cos I got nothing to prove
Except my love for you Well I got me ten dollars that I’m dying to spend
But that kinda money doesn’t buy many friends
So you, go and tell me
That I got nothing to lose

I end up sleeping like a cat on the floor
I’m always dreaming just a little bit more About you
And all the things that you do. He hey hey I could sleep all day
Cos I got nothing to prove
Except my love for you Cos I got nothing to prove
Except my love for you Cos I got nothing to prove
 Except my love for you

My Idea of Fun © Jimi Hocking

 You got, too much talking
 When we’re climbing into bed
I get no loving
And it’s messing with my head

I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun

 You think it’s funny
When I’m pacing ‘round the room
 You been laughing
From the cradle to the tomb

 I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun

 I’ll pack my case
 Take my guitar
And throw them into the boot of my car

 I’ll go away babe
 But not too far
Cos’ I hate to see you sad

I’d regret you
If it weren’t for your home cooking
 I’d forget you
If you weren’t so damn good looking I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun I’ll pack my case
 Take my guitar
And throw them into the boot of my car I’ll go away babe
 But not very far
Cos’ I hate to see you sad

 I wanna love you
And I’ll make it nice and slow
I reach out to touch you
 And you say …
“You dirty so and so” I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun I’d be gone
If this weren’t my idea of fun

A little like me. © Jimi Hocking
Well I don’t care if I’m not your type
And I know you don’t approve of my motor bike You’re the one who said it was over
I’m just the one who kinda agreed

 But now,
You got yourself a lover who reminds me a little of me. You know the day you scratched my favourite CD? You shouldn’t have done that to my SRV
Cos’ you’re the one who was always complaining
That I’m kinda ‘Testosteronie’ But how come
You got yourself a lover who reminds me a little of me. “I think this guy’s kinda familiar”
I don’t miss your yuppie crowd
Cos now I play the stereo way too loud
When you’re old you’re gonna look like your Mother
And you know she ain’t much to see! But how come
You got yourself a lover who reminds me a little of me.
I don’t care if I’m not your type
And I know you don’t approve of my motor bike But you’re the one who said it was over
I’m just the one who kinda agreed

 But now,
You got yourself a lover who reminds me a little of me. And when your old your gonna look like your Mother!
And you know she ain’t much to see But how come,
You got yourself a lover who reminds me a little of me.

The Most Beautifool © Jimi Hocking

Well I tried to make you happy
 Do what I can
But you’re getting bored baby And you don’t understand You want me to talk, but you don’t like the tone of my voice

Well, it’s the only tone I got baby
So I guess I got no choice

 You’re the most beautiful… fool I know.
The most beautiful… fool I know.
 You want romancing
So you ask me for a kiss
 I come on over thinking
, you cannot resist

 We start with an embrace
And then our passion starts to flow
But now you want a cigarette
And you say you gotta go! The most beautiful… fool I know.
The most beautiful… fool I know.

You say I should pay all the bills
Cos’ I got all the money
I’d go along with you But my friends all think it’s funny
 You sit on the couch
And I do what you ask
Well, why don’t you get a job
And get up off your ass

 You’re driving the car
 You almost run somebody down
 Don’t expect me
, to not make a sound
I’m gonna scream baby I’m gonna cry
I don’t have to come up with
Ten reasons why ! You’re the most beautiful… fool I know.
The most beautiful… fool I know. The most beautiful… fool I know.
The most beautiful… fool I know.
The most beautiful… fool I know.

I’ve been daydreamin’ baby
I dream all day about everything I’ve been daydreamin’ baby
I dream all day about everything
So when you come to know me
See what my daydreams can bring

Cos I put my eyes on you babe
You’ve been nothing but a shame
Since I put my eyes on you baby
It’s been nothing but a shame And my sorry daydreams tell me
I will never be the same I been dreaming about Venus
 I been dreaming about Mars
I been dreaming about this song When I was dreaming about guitars I’ve been daydreamin’ baby
I dream all day about everything
And now that you’ve come to know me
See what my dreams can bring

I’ve been dreaming about a stranger
I’ve been dreaming about you I know you’re going away
But I don’t know what to do I’ve been daydreamin’ baby
I dream all day about everything
And now that you’ve come to know me
See what my dreams can bring Send a postcard baby
Or drop me a line Send a postcard baby
Or drop me a line Be nice to know if you miss me
And I hope you’re doing fine Be nice to know if you miss me
And I hope you’re doing fine Be nice to know if you miss me baby
And I hope you’re doing fine

Trouble 02:24
Trouble © Jimi Hocking

 I know that I’m right
 You say that I’m wrong
 I kiss you good night
 But you’re already gone

 I got trouble baby
Keeping my hands off a you It’s a sign of the times
 You’re wearing your face
 I run hot and cold
As you run ‘round the place I got trouble baby
Keeping my hands off a you

And you know that it’s true
It’s written right here
 Right across my face

I get so blue without you
Don’t keep me floating out in space
I want to you to love me
The same way I love you And you know that it’s true
 It’s written right here
 Right across my face

I get so blue without you
Please don’t keep me floating out in space
Cos’ I want to you to love me
The same way I love you

about

Blue Guitar HI006

Blue Guitar is a DIY album I made at the end of the 1990’s after my (temporary) departure from The Screaming Jets. I was at the end of a divorce and flat broke. I had some modest recording gear and apart from the drums and some harp, I recorded everything in my flat in Elwood Victoria using a borrowed Rhode microphone, playing guitar into a little Goldentone amp situated in the cupboard.

It was challenging do do it like this and the album has many flaws. I pretty much didn’t know a single person who thought making a Blues album was a good idea at the time. The Blues scene was not as established as it is now, and I recall a gentleman who did some bookings for me refer to the idea as ‘professional suicide’. I still cringe at the sound of my voice when I hear myself sing blues, I wish BB Kings voice would emanate from my vocal chords. Instead a skinny white boy from the suburbs comes out.

But I enjoyed this labour of love, and beyond the fact that I had no budget and no high quality production, this is a very real album of rootsy ideas at a time when I couldn't even 'drop in' to fix recording blunders.

However, it opened new doors for me. Both the Blue Guitar and the Blue Mandolin albums were projects I just ‘wanted to do’, and in many ways I like the fact that my personal history is littered with projects of that nature.

My night mare would be to look back on my musical history and see a bunch of fashion driven pop releases that dated a month after they were released (no offence intended to pop artists). My sister often joked… “What about a Blue Bouzouki album, or a Blue Sitar album?” … my response … “hold my beer” ;-)
