about

Living in Luxury was the follow up album to ‘No Turning Back’.

Originally destined for a release in 1993.

An exclusive distribution deal was cut with Brashs Music Australia who had sold an impressive number of the NTB release.
Unfortunately, on the eve of the release, Brashs suddenly and sadly went out of business.

There was no back up plan and Independent record stores of the time had no interest in what was perceived as a ‘commercial’ sounding rock album.

I played a launch and sold copies direct, but beyond that it was difficult to get the album on the shelf. Management and I negotiated and tried two different distribution companies who took a few hundred CD’s each. Neither of these ‘distribution companies’ had computerised accounting facilities (believe it or not) and could not tell me if they sold the CD’s I provided, or gave them away as promo copies.

After spending about 20 thousand of my own money, I did not recoup one dollar from the exercise.

However, don’t get the impression this is a tale of woe, true… it didn’t quite work out, but I still like the album. Perhaps it hasn’t dated as well as other rock records from the period, but I was fond of the songs and Paul Kosky was great to work with in the studio.
If I had one regret it would be that Josie Jason was working on her own project/album at the time and I didn’t get her to play on this one.

It was also a common suggestion/demand of recording & distribution companies of the time to have one cover song on an album. I didn’t love the idea or the track I decided to do, so I’m not charging for it.

After the questionable experience of this release, I moved to Sydney … there was a possibility that Paul Rodgers (Free) was going to tour, and along with Jim Hilbun & Tim Powles… I would play in the band. It would’ve been awesome. However, he ended up not coming.

As I wondered what I would do next, Aaron Chugg asked me if I might consider playing guitar in The Screaming Jets for a tour … and the rest is history ;-)
